EU Banking Law: bridging gaps with the community

EU Banking Law: bridging gaps with the community

Project acronym: EU_Bank

The primary aim of this EU_Bank is to generate and share impactful knowledge on critical issues within the EU banking market while promoting financial literacy among students, researchers and the general public. The module’s teaching component will equip master students with a robust understanding of the fundamentals of EU banking law. This will be enriched by contributions from legal practitioners, industry experts and policymakers operating at national and EU levels. These experts will feature as guest lecturers in selected classes as part of the teaching program, providing practical insights and real-world understanding of the subject. The project’s community-oriented initiatives will focus on narrowing the gap between society and financial markets. By fostering dialogue among academia, students, and the broader community, these activities aim to enhance financial literacy and build connections across diverse groups. The past 17 years have exposed critical vulnerabilities and shortcomings in financial markets, particularly in the EU banking sector. The 2007/8 financial crisis had the benefit to bring to light the need for more robust regulatory frameworks, while subsequent events like the covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine further highlighted the fragility and vulnerability of consumers, largely driven by insufficient levels of financial literacy. To address these challenges, the project will prioritize financial literacy as a tool for empowerment and resilience. Key activities include teaching workshops designed for children and young adults in foster care supported by a non-profit organization, alongside hybrid seminars exploring pressing topics in EU banking law. A final conference will be held to showcase the project’s outcomes, accompanied by the publication of at least 3 peer-reviewed papers over EU_Bank three-year duration. A dedicated and international team of nine members will carry out these initiatives.
