In accordance to art. 8 of the Research Grants Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology, with the financial support of the FCT/MCTES through national funds (PIDDAC), and within the scope of the Strategic Project of CEDIS 2020-2023 (Ref. UIDB/00714 /2020), a call for applications is hereby launched for 1 (one) Research Scholarship (BI), for a student  enrolled in a Masters Degree course, to collaborate in the knowledge center NOVA Center for Business, Human Rights and the Environment (NBHE), hosted by CEDIS, Centro de R&D on Law and Society (UI0714), at NOVA School of Law – Faculty of Law, Lisbon NOVA University, coordinated by Professor Claire Bright.

Duration: The scholarship lasts for 6 months, with the possibility of renewal for an equal period up to a maximum of 12 months. The scholarship amount is eight hundred, seventy-five euros and ninety-eight cents (€875,98), with monthly payment by bank transfer.

Object, Objective and Activities: provide support and research assistance to the Knowledge Center on Business, Human Rights and the Environment at the NOVA School of Law. The Center’s objectives are threefold: to carry out high quality research in the area; to increase awareness and capacity through the organisation of conferences and events and the development of courses and executive training; and to serve as a platform of exchange amongst relevant stakeholders in Portugal and beyond. In this regard, the researcher will assist Professor Claire Bright in achieving these goals by providing research assistance, populating and maintaining the center’s website, ensuring its presence in the media, helping to coordinate webinars, events, courses, and collaborating in the dissemination of research through the podcasts and the newsletter.

Admission requirements and assessment parameters:

1. a) To be enrolled in law Master’s Degree course;
2. b) Be fluent in Portuguese and English;
3. c) Grades history (30%);
4. d) Cover letter (30%);
5. e) Relevance and adequacy of the previous path to the research project, especially in relation to the skills required to design and maintain a website, the organization of events and involvement in activities or projects in the area of ​​Business and Human Rights (40%).

Publicity and deadline for submission of applications: The present Call for Applications is published in the website and facilities of NOVA School of Law and in the CEDIS website, as well as in the EURAXESS Portal, for a minimum period of 10 working days from the date of this publication. Applications may be submitted from January, 31 and the deadline for submission ends on February, 13.

Selection: The selection of candidates will be made by a jury composed of the Coordinator of the NOVA BHRE, Professor Claire Bright, who will be presiding, Professor Athina Sachoulidou and Professor Laura Iñigo Álvarez, based on curricular assessment. If the jury deems it necessary, interviews may be held with the candidates.

Hearing of interested parties: Pursuant to article 124, no. 1, al. a) of the Code of Administrative Procedure, this competition does not require a hearing with interested parties due to the urgency of the decision to select the scholarship holder.

Form of publication/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be published through an anonymized list, posted in a visible and public place at the NOVA School of Law and on the CEDIS website, and candidates will be notified by e- mail.

Formalization of applications: Applications should be submitted on time and be accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae, proof of enrollment in a Master Degree course and a copy of the history of notes, as well as the application to the e-mail concurso.bolsas@novalaw.unl.pt, with the subject “Research Scholarship (BI) No. 1/2023”.

Model contract, final reports and evalution criteria: The model grant contract to be adopted is provided in Annex I. Annexes II and III are models of final reports to be submitted by the grant holder and the scientific advisor respectively, under the terms of the contract. The criteria for evaluating the grantee by the scientific advisor will be compliance with the plan of activities attached to the contract.

It is the duty of the scholarship holder to punctually comply with the guidelines established by the scientific advisor, to communicate to the Foundation for Science and Technology the occurrence of any fact that justifies the suspension of the scholarship and the timely preparation of a semi-annual and final report on the assessment of the program of activities developed with the grant awarded. The fulfillment of the work plan, except for justified exceptions, takes place in the premises of CEDIS and/or the Faculty of Law of the UNL.
