MINITES

In accordance to art. 8 of the Research Grants Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology, with the financial support of the FCT/MCTES through national funds (PIDDAC), and within the scope of the Strategic Project of CEDIS 2020-2023 (Ref. UIDB/00714 /2020), a call for applications is hereby launched for 1 (one) Research Scholarship (BI), for a student enrolled in a Masters Degree course, to collaborate in the knowledge center NOVA Green Lab, hosted by CEDIS, center of R&D on Law and Society (UI0714), at NOVA School of Law – Faculty of Law, Lisbon NOVA University, coordinated by Professor Lucila de Almeida.

Duration: The scholarship lasts for 6 months, with the possibility of renewal foran equal period up to a maximum of 24 months. The scholarship amount is  nine hundred and thirty euros and ninety eight cents (€930,98) (https://www.fct.pt/wpcontent/uploads/2023/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_2023.pdf), with monthly payment by bank transfer.

Object, Objective and Activities: provide support and assistance to the research carried out by NOVA GREEN LAB. The knowledge center responds to the need to find skills and knowledge in the area of the environment, climate and energy, topics that are directly or indirectly linked to all the goals of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. NOVA GREEN LAB’s research focuses especially on the legal architecture and legislative reforms at European Union level and subsequent transposition in the Member States. In this regard, the fellow will assist the NOVA GREEN LAB coordination team in achieving these objectives by providing research assistance, helping in particular in activities related to assisting in the dissemination of scientific research, organizing conferences and workshops, updating social networks and website, in particular together with NOVA GREEN LAB’s privileged partners, public or private. In particular, the successful candidate will be expected to carry out part of his/her research on European law in the NOVA Green Lab’s area of expertise, also including issues related to ESG impact.

Admission requirements and assessment parameters:
a) Have completed a law degree;
b) Be enrolled in a master’s degree course;
c) Fluent written and spoken Portuguese;
d) Fluent command of written and spoken English, as demonstrated in the letter of intent to be submitted as part of the evaluation parameters of the application and, if the jury deems it appropriate, in an interview to be conducted by the candidate.

Publicity and deadline for submission of applications: The present Call for Applications is published in the website and facilities of NOVA School of Law and in the CEDIS website, as well as in the EURAXESS Portal, for a minimum period of 10 working days from the date of this publication. Applications may be submitted from Thursday 21 September 2023 and the deadline for submission ends on 5 October 2023.

Selection: The selection of candidates will be made by a jury composed of the Coordinator of the NOVA Green Lab, Professor Lucila de Almeida, who will be presiding, Professor Giulia Priora and Professor João Francisco Diogo, based on an assessment of the admission requirements and parameters identified in this announcement, possibly complemented by an interview.

Hearing of interested parties: Pursuant to article 124, no. 1, al. a) of the Code of Administrative Procedure, this competition does not require a hearing with interested parties due to the urgency of the decision to select the scholarship holder.

Form of publication/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be published in an alphabetically ordered list, posted in a visible and public place in the Faculty of Law of UNL and on the CEDIS website, and candidates will be notified by email.

Formalization of applications: Applications should be submitted on time and be accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae, proof of enrollment in a Master Degree course and a copy of the history of notes, as well as the application to the e-mail concurso.bolsas@novalaw.unl.pt, with the subject “Research Grant n.º 13/2023”.

Model contract, final reports and evalution criteria: The model grant contract to be adopted is provided in Annex I. Annexes II and III are models of final reports to be submitted by the grant holder and the scientific advisor respectively, under the terms of the contract. The criteria for evaluating the grantee by the scientific advisor will be compliance with the plan of activities attached to the contract.

It is the duty of the scholarship holder to punctually comply with the guidelines established by the scientific advisor, to communicate to the Foundation for Science and Technology the occurrence of any fact that justifies the suspension of the scholarship and the timely preparation of a semi-annual and final report on the assessment of the program of activities developed with the grant awarded. The fulfillment of the work plan, except for justified exceptions, takes place in the premises of CEDIS and/or the Faculty of Law of the UNL.
