Research grant for a master’s student
Project title: NOVA Intellectual Property and Sustainable Innovation

A call for applications is open for a research grant for 1 (one) master’s student, funded by Consumer Empowerment Project/Synallagma Consumer Leadership Academy, under the following conditions:
- Scientific Area:
The selected candidate will perform research activities in the scientific areas of:
- EU Industrial Property Law,
- EU Copyright Law, and
- EU and comparative Intellectual Property Law and Sustainability.
- Admission requirements:
- Obtained Bachelor’s degree in Law in any higher education institution;
- Valid enrolment in one of the master’s programs at NOVA School of Law at the starting date of the research grant;
- Average academic performance in the transcript of records of the master’s program of 16 (sixteen) or above.
- Other requirements:
- Language skills, for comparative legal research and analysis
- Work plan:
The selected candidate will work, full time and across the whole duration of the research grant, on the following research tasks:
- Conducting the NOVA IPSI research lines mapping and literature reviews (Task1);
- Building the EU IP law and Sustainability legal database (Task2);
- Support research on EU copyright law and distributive justice (Task3).

- Place of work
The work can be carried out at the facilities of NOVA School of Law, under the scientific supervision of Professor Giulia Priora.
- Duration of the grant
The grant will last for 6 (six) months, scheduled to start around the 1st of March of 2025. The scholarship contract may be renewed for an equal period up to a maximum of 12 months, subject to budget availability and the duration of the project.
- Amount of the monthly maintenance allowance
The amount of the scholarship corresponds to €990,98. The amount could be subject to adjustment according to the table of values defined in Annex I of the NOVA University Lisbon Research Scholarship Regulations, approved by Order no. 9484/2023 of 14 September 2023. The payment is made monthly by way of bank transfer.

- How the results are publicised/notified:
The final results of the assessment proposed by the jury will be notified to the candidates by email, no later than 90 working days after the deadline for submitting applications, and they will be able to access the minutes and the shortlist, and comment within 10 working days on the draft decision in the context of a prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Portuguese Code of Administrative Procedure. At the end of the period set for the hearing of interested parties and in the absence of any response, the shortlist will become final. Candidates may lodge a complaint against the final decision within 15 working days (to the email address used for notification), or appeal to the highest executive body of the funding organisation within 30 working days of notification of the final decision, addressed to the email address cedis@novalaw.unl.pt.
- Application deadline and form of submission
The call for applications will be open between 29 January and 12 February 2025.
Applications must be formalised by sending an email to concurso.bolsas@novalaw.unl.pt, mentioning the grant reference “Research grant no. 2/2025″ in the subject line of the email.
The application must consist of a single PDF file, including:
- Detailed CV (including email address and telephone number);
- Research proposal, in English language;
- Documents proving the academic degrees obtained and the transcripts of record (grades) obtained in all subjects taken;
- Proof of enrolment for the current academic year at one Master’s Program in Law at NOVA School of Law.
(For academic degrees awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it is compulsory to present the registration of the recognition of the academic degree and the conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese scale (process regulated by Decree-Law no. 341/2007, of 12th October), or alternatively, to obtain equivalence/recognition of the academic degrees – process regulated by Decree-Law no. 283/83, of 21st June).
