ANNOUNCEMENT

 

Under the terms of article 8 of the Research Grants Regulations of the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, with the financial support of FCT/MCTES through national funds (PIDDAC) within the scope of the R&D Project “IN_SOLVENS: Insolvency Law in Portugal – a multidisciplinary analysis” (Ref. PTDC/DIR-OUT/2939/2020), to the opening of a call for two research grants (BI) for master’s students to collaborate in the mentioned research project, hosted by CEDIS, Centre for R & D on Law and Society (UI0714), of Universidade Nova de Lisboa – NOVA School of Law, coordinated by Professor Mariana França Gouveia.

 

Duration: The scholarship has a maximum duration of 9 months, without the possibility of renewal. The amount of the grant is 835,98 euros (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores), with monthly payment by bank transfer.

 

Object, Goal and Activities: Collaboration in the research project “IN_SOLVENS: Insolvency Law in Portugal – a multidisciplinary analysis”. The aim of the project is to identify the causes and effects of the long duration of insolvency proceedings and the reduced use of pre-insolvency mechanisms in Portugal. The scholarship holder will collaborate in several activities, in particular in the writing of the reports, in the research and analysis of bibliography and jurisprudence, in the consultation of final court cases, in the analysis of official statistics and in the development of the project’s website.

 

Admission requirements and evaluation parameters:

Admission requirements

To have concluded a bachelor’s degree in Law; and
To be enrolled in a Master’s course.

Evaluation parameters

Final classification of the undergraduate degree (35%);
Relevance and adequacy of the previous career to the activities to be developed within the scope of the project, as shown in the curriculum vitae (40%). Among other aspects, the grade obtained in the discipline Insolvency, the average mark in the Master’s degree to date (which must be indicated) and the texts, articles or other publications will be taken into account;
Letter of intent (maximum 2 pages) addressing a topic related to insolvency proceedings that you propose to investigate during your scholarship period (25%). In this regard, the applicant’s intention to conduct a Master’s thesis in the area of Insolvency Law will be valued.

 

Publicity and deadline for submission of applications: The present Call for Applications will be publicised on the NOVA School of Law website and facilities and on the CEDIS website, as well as on the EURAXESS Portal, for a minimum period of 10 working days from the date of this publication. Applications must be submitted between 15 February 2022 and 28 February.

 

Selection: The selection of candidates will be made by a jury composed by the Project Coordinator, Professor Mariana França Gouveia, who presides, by Professor Jorge Morais Carvalho and by Professor João Pedro Pinto-Ferreira, based on curricular evaluation, possibly complemented by an interview.

 

Hearing of interested parties: In accordance with article 124, no. 1, al. a), of the Administrative Procedure Code, the hearing of interested parties is waived in the present competition due to the urgency of the decision to select the grant holder.

 

Form of publication/notification of results The final results of the evaluation will be published through an alphabetically ordered list, posted in a visible and public place of the NOVA School of Law and in the CEDIS website, and candidates will be notified by email.

 

Formalisation of applications: Applications should be accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae, a copy of the transcript of grades (bachelor and master) and a letter of intent and sent to the e-mail address concurso.bolsas@cedis.fd.unl.pt, with the subject “Bolsa de Investigação n.º 3/2022 “. The curriculum vitae should be organized according to the admission requirements and evaluation parameters described in this announcement.

 

Model contract, final reports and respective evaluation criteria: The model grant contract to be adopted is provided in Annex I. Annexes II and III are models of final reports to be submitted by the grant holder and the scientific advisor respectively, under the terms of the contract. The evaluation criterion of the grant recipient by the scientific advisor will be the fulfilment of the activity plan attached to the contract. The contract will be subject to the effective availability of funding under the aforementioned project and is scheduled for March 2022.

It is the grant holder’s duty to punctually comply with the guidelines established by the scientific advisor, to inform the Foundation for Science and Technology of any fact that justifies the suspension of the grant and to prepare a half-yearly and final report in due time to assess the programme of activities carried out with the grant awarded. The work plan, with justified exceptions, will be carried out at the premises of CEDIS and/or NOVA School of Law.
