Research Initiation Scholarship n.º2/2022
CALL
In accordance to art. 8º of the Research Grants Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology, with the financial support of the FCT/MCTES through national funds (PIDDAC), and within the scope of the Strategic Project of CEDIS 2020-2023 (Ref. UIDB/00714 /2020), a call for applications is hereby launched for 1 (one) Research Initiation Scholarship (BII), for an undergraduate student enrolled in a law course, to collaborate in the knowledge center NOVA Data-Driven Law, coordinated by Professor Margarida Lima Rego and Professor Fabrizio Esposito, hosted by CEDIS, Centro de R&D on Law and Society (UI0714), at NOVA School of Law – Faculty of Law, Lisbon NOVA University.
Duration: The scholarship lasts for 6 months, with the possibility of renewal for an equal period up to a maximum of 12 months. The scholarship amount is €486.12 (four hundred and eighty-six euros and twelve cents), with monthly payment by bank transfer.
Object, Objective and Activities: Objective and object of initiating science management and communication, through the development of activities to provide support and assistance to the various research and science dissemination projects taking place at the NOVA Data-Driven Law knowledge center. The main tasks to be carried out are:
1) Development and support for the promotion and updating of the website and social networks of the NOVA Knowledge Center on Data-Driven Law, platforms for disseminating ongoing projects and activities and their main results, in a coherent and integrated manner, including the preparation of some content autonomously;
2) Support for the organization of conferences, seminars, workshops and other activities for the dissemination of science produced in NOVA Data-Driven Law;
3) Providing support for the preparation of applications for funding national and international research projects;
4) Possibility of being part of research teams of research projects in progress or to be started, to the extent of the compatibility of their training and according to their main research interests.
Admission requirements:
a) Proof of enrollment in a law degree course;
b) Proficiency in Portuguese and English (minimum level B2).
Assessment parameters:
a) Weighted average of the marks obtained from the successfully completed curricular units (40%);
b) Number of ECTS (40%);
c) Motivation (20%).
Publicity and deadline for submission of applications: The present Call is published in the website and facilities of NOVA School of Law and in the CEDIS website, as well as in the EURAXESS Portal, for a minimum period of 10 working days from the date of this publication. Applications may be submitted from October 21, 2022 and the deadline for submission ends on November 4, 2022.
Selection: The selection of candidates will be made by a jury composed of the NOVA Data-Driven Law knowledge center coordinator Professor Margarida Lima Rego, who will be presiding, Professor Fabrizio Esposito, co-coordinator and Professor Joana Farrajota, researcher at the knowledge center, based on curricular assessment. If the jury deems it necessary, interviews may be held with the candidates.
Hearing of interested parties: Pursuant to article 124, no. 1, al. a) of the Code of Administrative Procedure, this competition does not require a hearing with interested parties due to the urgency of the decision to select the scholarship holder.
Form of publication/notification of results: The results of the evaluation will be published through an anonymized list, posted in a visible and public place at the NOVA School of Law and on the CEDIS website, and candidates will be notified by e- mail.
Formalization of applications: Applications should be submitted on time and be accompanied by detailed curriculum vitae, a copy of the history of notes, proof of enrollment in a law course, as well as a letter of intent to the e-mail concurso.bolsas@cedis.novalaw.unl.pt, with the subject “Research Initiation Grant (BII) No. 1/2022”.
Model contract, final reports and evalution criteria: The model grant contract to be adopted is provided in Annex I. Annexes II and III are models of final reports to be submitted by the grant holder and the scientific advisor respectively, under the terms of the contract. The criteria for evaluating the grantee by the scientific advisor will be compliance with the plan of activities attached to the contract.

It is the duty of the scholarship holder to punctually comply with the guidelines established by the scientific advisor, to communicate to the Foundation for Science and Technology the occurrence of any fact that justifies the suspension of the scholarship and the timely preparation of a semi-annual and final report on the assessment of the program of activities developed with the grant awarded. The fulfillment of the work plan, except for justified exceptions, takes place in the premises of CEDIS and/or the Faculty of Law of the UNL.
