Organised by Cadi Ayyad University (UCA), the event was attended by 25 researchers from 13 partner universities in South Africa, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Somalia, Ethiopia, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Greece, France, Sweden and Italy.

The consortium, coordinated by the University of Roma Tre, is co-funded by the European Union and Nova School of Law is the project’s partner in the field of European Union Law. It was represented at this event by Professor Francisco Pereira Coutinho (project coordinator at NSL) and PhD student Maria João Carapêto (project manager and researcher).

This inaugural meeting laid the foundations for the creation of an academic infrastructure that promotes dialogue, research and advocacy between Europe and Africa, reinforcing synergies and fostering sustainable and innovative solutions. The CIDRA Project’s vision is directly aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely:

  • SDG 4: Quality Education – promoting access to higher education, skills development and knowledge sharing between European and African universities.
  • SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Effective Institutions – fostering intercultural dialogue and research-based advocacy to strengthen inclusive and accountable institutions.
  • SDG 17: Partnerships for the Implementation of the Goals – creating a network of international cooperation between universities, promoting the exchange of good practices and building joint solutions to global challenges.
