30 May
This seminar is organized within the framework of the postdoctoral project led by Laura Íñigo Álvarez funded by FCT through CEDIS (UIDP/00714/2020).
This project aims at analyzing the legal frameworks applicable to companies operating in conflict scenarios, including hard and soft law instruments within human rights, international humanitarian law and international criminal law, as well as highlight examples of good practices and recommendations on how to better implement human rights due diligence by businesses in conflict and post-conflict situations. In this session, speakers will tackle, among others, issues such as human rights red flags for companies in Ukraine, the challenges posed by private military and security companies and the extractive industry, the planning of a responsible exit for business in conflict, as well as transitional justice approaches and the role of businesses in these settings.
