MINITES

In accordance to art. 8 of the Research Grants Regulation of the Foundation for Science and Technology, with the financial support of the FCT/MCTES through national funds (PIDDAC), and within the scope of the Strategic Project of CEDIS 2020-2023 (Ref. UIDB/00714 /2020), a call for applications is hereby launched for 1 (one) Research Scholarship (BI), for a student enrolled in a Masters Degree course, to collaborate in the knowledge center NOVA Center on Intellectual Property and Sustainable Innovation (NOVA IPSI), hosted by CEDIS, Centro de R&D on Law and Society (UI0714), at NOVA School of Law – Faculty of Law, Lisbon NOVA University, coordinated by Professor Giulia Priora.

Duration: The scholarship lasts for 6 months, with the possibility of renewal for an equal period up to a maximum of 12 months. The scholarship amount is nine hundred and thirty euros and ninety eight cents (€930,98) (https://www.fct.pt/wpcontent/uploads/2023/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_2023.pdf), with monthly payment by bank transfer.

Object, Objective and Activities: The winner of the scholarship will provide research assistance and scientific support to the NOVA IPSI Knowledge Center at the NOVA School of Law. NOVA IPSI’s activities focus on the following research areas: copyright and media law; patent law and green technologies; trademarks and branding strategies; design protection and cultural policies. The Center operates based on 5 teams, carrying out, respectively: publications, events, trainings, IPSI Talks and the IPSI Desk.

In this light, the winner of the scholarship will assist Professor Giulia Priora in the activities of: (i) legal desk-research, (ii) academic peer review, and (iii) academic dissemination to support the outputs of all 5 teams of the NOVA IPSI Center.

Admission requirements and assessment parameters:
a) To be enrolled in law Master’s Degree course;
b) Be fluent in Portuguese and English;
c) Grades history (30%);
d) Cover letter (max 2 pages) (30%);
e) Relevant publications and/or current research workplan (max 5 pages) (40%).

Publicity and deadline for submission of applications: The present Call for Applications is published in the website and facilities of NOVA School of Law and in the CEDIS website, as well as in the EURAXESS Portal, for a minimum period of 10 working days from the date of this publication. Applications may be submitted from Monday 28 August 2023 and the deadline for submission ends on 11 September 2023.

Selection: The selection of candidates will be made by a jury composed of the Coordinator of the NOVA IPSI, Professor Giulia Priora, who will be presiding, Professor Athina Sachoulidou and Professor Miguel de Azevedo Moura, permanent faculty members of NOVA IPSI, based on the assessment parameters indicated above. If the jury deems it necessary, interviews may be held with the candidates.

Hearing of interested parties: Pursuant to article 124, no. 1, al. a) of the Code of Administrative Procedure, this competition does not require a hearing with interested parties due to the urgency of the decision to select the scholarship holder.

Form of publication/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be published through an anonymized list, posted in a visible and public place at the NOVA School of Law and on the CEDIS website, and candidates will be notified by e-mail.

Formalization of applications: Applications should be submitted on time and be accompanied by a detailed curriculum vitae, proof of enrollment in a Master Degree course and a copy of the history of notes, as well as the application to the e-mail concurso.bolsas@novalaw.unl.pt, with the subject “Research Grant n.º 11/2023”.

Model contract, final reports and evalution criteria: The model grant contract to be adopted is provided in Annex I. Annexes II and III are models of final reports to be submitted by the grant holder and the scientific advisor respectively, under the terms of the contract. The criteria for evaluating the grantee by the scientific advisor will be compliance with the plan of activities attached to the contract.

It is the duty of the scholarship holder to punctually comply with the guidelines established by the scientific advisor, to communicate to the Foundation for Science and Technology the occurrence of any fact that justifies the suspension of the scholarship and the timely preparation of a semi-annual and final report on the assessment of the program of activities developed with the grant awarded. The fulfillment of the work plan, except for justified exceptions, takes place in the premises of CEDIS and/or the Faculty of Law of the UNL.
